About

Who?

Dice Productions make animations and write comedy. We are animator Louis Hudson and writer Ian Ravenscroft, with a dash of writing and performance from Tom Reid.

We work together and individually to produce animations, films, scripts, and original concepts for ourselves and commercial clients. We want to make imaginative content for television, film, and the internet.

We’ve got an established online following, with nearly 4 million views on our YouTube channel, and we’ve done work for clients including UK Film Council, BBC Comedy, Comedy Central, Warner Entertainment, NTFS, The Lymphoma Association and The Brothers McLeod.

We recently made our first short All Consuming Love (Man in a Cat), a 9 minute animated comedy for UK Film Council and Screen WM starring Kevin Eldon, Josie Long and Isabel Fay. It’s shown in competition around the world festival circuit and has so far won Best Comedy Short at London Short Film Festival and Best Story at Multivision film festival in St Petersburg, Russia.

We also run live comedy and video night, Popcorn Comedy, in our native Birmingham.

How we work

Whilst we often work independently from each other in our different fields, we come together regularly with our broad range of skills and approaches. Particularly when working with a client to develop ideas from scratch. As producers we also often work with other people with different specialties to create work that best suites the brief.

Louis is an animation director and writer. He’ll make you an advert, a film, a music video, or a TV show. He’s trained in traditional 2D animation and uses combinations of Flash, After Effects and the good old pencil to create his work. Louis has a natural understanding of comic timing, and is skilled in conveying emotion and characterisation through his animation.

Ian is a writer. His interests lie in writing for TV, radio, and film. Ian has so far written for Radio 4 Extra, co-wrote animated short All Consuming Love (Man in a Cat), written on commercial comedy projects, and is currently working on several sitcom and sketch ideas intended for broadcast.

Tom is a writer and actor. He contributes to the writing process and stars in many of our sketches. His skills and spontaneity as a performer develop characters and build on scripted themes.

Popcorn Comedy

Together with Jon Petrie we organise and run the Birmingham branch of the monthly comedy film night Popcorn Comedy. Popcorn combines curated online sketch comedy and live comedians, who show there own videos to create a unique multimedia comedy night. We’ve hosted comedians such as Simon Munnery, Tim Key, David Scheider, Alice Lowe, Rob Rouse, Doc Brown, Holly Walsh, Fergus Craig and Brian Gittins. We’re particularly proud that we’re often the first people to bring these comedians to Birmingham.
